Work Sucks
Good afternoon everyone and welcome. I've just finished my last exams and i'm now left with the GP next month. Hopefully it'll be done in a jiffy and i'll get the much sought after paper that vouches my credentials as an able worker. This is a different layout than i expected. I've gotten use to the whiteness but cool no less. I hope the celebrating lot of you are not gorging on too much food. It might affect your slim physique you've acquired during the fasting period. It might even lead to a really bad stomachache, choking or even something worse. Please practice moderation.
Anyways, today is the first day of the week, hence a work day. It's still lunch time so i guess i should write on something. I'm done with school and my friends are either in NS, working, schooling and the list goes on and on. Add that with the fact that i've got a shit for a job and dead days and empty nights, you know i'm facing severe boredom that should lead to hypertension and stress. Well, i'm not surprise cause just a few months back i found out i have high blood pressure. How cool is that? High blood pressure when you barely reach 20. I think it should subside for the moment but with the boredom that's going to ensue, it should reactivate again soon. Hopefully it wouldn't be so bad as one of my previous post. Now, that was freakishly bad. The only remedy that could cure me right now is having a new job. Which brings to mind the ongoing economic crisis in America. Just a background. The companies that were listed as going bust or potentially bust are all investment banking. As such, their methods of services works in a different way. To start with, they have reserves or capital. They entice all the rich clients into investing in them. So with the invested money, the banks use them for other investments. Turns out it wasn't a good idea. The more investments they made at the shaky market, the more losses they made. Before they know it, with the limited reserves, bad choices of investments and unuchecked spending, it all leads to a downward spiral which becomes the crisis they're facing today. The crisis is affecting Singapore more then we know it. In a recent news reports, Singapore is now in recession. There is fair warning that it is going to get worse over the next two years as what the Ministries have forecast. In simple words, most of the people are going to get retrench; but hold on. Just who exactly are going to get retrench? From the given situation, it can be said that most manufacturing , exporting and some professional sectors will be affected. The proffesional sectors that will be affected or are affected already includes law firms, land investments and banks. I'm working in a law firm under the conveyancing department; in other words, land and property cases. So if you all are wondering whether i'll get retrench, then the answer is no. I see confused faces out there because i'm dealing with land and property and here i am saying i won't get retrench. Contradictory eh? The reasons are pretty obvious. If you're the employer, surely you would want someone inexpensive, young and full of life all waiting to be snuffed out by your ambitions of earning more money. So if it happens to be recession, and you're faced with a choice between an old timer who earns quite a sum, slow in working due to age and has majority of the brain cells dead or a brash newcomer who can learn everything real fast and at a real cheap cost, surely you'll sack the old timer. Now, i'm guessing you all are happy that i still have a job. On the contrary, i am praying and hoping for retrenchment; makes my resignation simple. The amount of stress that comes with the job is humongous and the office factor is a killer. I now realise that after a little more than a year, i do not have the mental nor physical capabilities to sit down in front of an inanimate object for long stretch of hours causing my eyes to smart and brain cells to die due to inactivity. I need a job that dosen't fault my moral values. A job that captivates my mind making full use of it. Not making it go to waste. Something that has the balance of physical labour to work up a sweat at the same time. I need a job i can enjoy working. The pay is just an added bonus. Ashanti gave a good suggestion but in my case, with the lack of a proper certificate, which apparently makes or break a person's potential job, i have to say that i will never get a good job. Which brings me to the next factor, the credentials. Due to very fast globalisation and the focus on the corporate sector, it is safe to say that degrees are now as common as O levels a few years back; and in a few years to come, i can safely say degrees will be obsolete and Ph.Ds will be as common as degrees right now. From this scenario, if we carefully analyse, already tons of people are not getting jobs not because of lack of credentials, but instead, it has become too common that the credentials are fast losing their value. So i really don't think degree holders should strut their pansies and be happy about it. In my case, at this very moment though, i'm still losing out because i still don't have a freaking degree. I'm still looking through the catalogue though, searching for some university with a nice name for me to buy a degree. Lastly, i really urge everyone who reads this post to think for a moment on 2 things: Am i happy with my job?, How long am i going to work here before i have a change of mind? These two questions should be asked every 3 months. Our attitudes change under the inlfuence of the environment hence our mindset will be different resulting in a minor or in most cases major change of heart for the job. Till then, stay clean and fresh; and if you have suggestions for a great job that you think i could shine in, then please don't hesitate to tag or mail. |
