F1
Good afternoon everyone. It’s the start of a new week so I hope everyone is taking it fine. Since it’s only two more days till Eid Mubarak (Hari Raya), I expect that most of the Muslim readers would be very busy in their preparations for the big day. Anyways, the past week saw thousands turning up for the inaugural F1 Night-time race here in “sinny” Singapore. It was hyped for a month prior to the race. With all the attention being lavished on the major event, it was no surprise to see famous names flying in from around the world just to experience the first ever night time race. It was a major success judging by the huge turnout; even if major roads were blocked and cabbies were leeching customers with the outrageous fare.
The thing about the race is, why do the media only broadcast the Singapore race and circuits from other parts of the world. What I’m trying to get here is that, F1 is a one-off thing here in Singapore. This is due to the lack of coverage. The viewers don’t know the drivers, the competition points, the cars and importantly the rules of engagement; but then again, these same viewers lap it all up as if they’re veterans of F1. I bet my bottom dollar that since F1 is done, everyone would revert back to their old lives not bothering on other races on other circuits around the world. This is sad really cause it really shows the hypocritical nature of humans in general. One other thing to take note, before the race, most of the major news was on the American economy crisis. That did not hinder major banks to treat their major customers to the race for free though. Imagine this, the richest people get to watch F1 for free just because they’re rich while average earners have to fork out obscene sum of money just to watch 20 cars going round and round for 2 hours. Funny how it’s depicted when its simplified. The reason the banks give for treating the rich class is that they want to retain their major clients; at the expense of their reserves. That is a huge risk taken given the current situation in US. Good move on their part. Real smooth. So now we know what the banks do with their reserves thus not being able to give us the required services. Hope that would suffice. For the Muslims, Eid Mubarak (Selamat Hari Raya). Please don't gorge yourselves on all the declicacies during the celebratory month. You'll get tummy aches. Till then, goodbye. |
